Now in its third year, the Southwest Print Fiesta is a celebration of all things printed! Join us October 5-7, 2018 in beautiful downtown Silver City, NM to experience the awesome variety of work being made by printmakers from all over New Mexico, as well as El Paso, Tucson, Phoenix, and all points in between. Come take a workshop, shop the vendor market, cheer on the steamroller printing spectacle, and soak up the inky good vibes...
In this workshop, participants will learn about the past and present history of wood type, set compositions of their own choosing, and learn to print using our vintage Showcard sign press or Challenge proof press. Each attendee will leave with a stack of 15 posters of their own design!
In this workshop, students will learn multiple techniques for monoprinting and image transfer. We will begin class with several demos covering trace monotype, collagraph, monoprinting and more. We will discuss ways of building layers within a print using multiple techniques and each student will have time to experiment at the press.
This year, we are excited to offer a program of casual drop-in sessions in a variety of print media, for those with limited time and/or budgets! A $15 access pass will get you into up to 5 sessions around town, including solar printing, book binding, 3D printing, photogravure, wintergreen transfer, and maybe more! These sessions will be offered in an open-house format from 10am-1pm at various locations around town.
In this workshop, students will explore drypoint intaglio using plexiglass plates. In this method, the plate is not chemically etched but instead is manually scratched in such a way that produces a raised “burr” that grabs ink and produces a characteristically soft and velvety line.
In this workshop, students will learn how to make low-tech silkscreen prints at home without chemicals or special equipment! Participants will make hand-cut stencils using wax paper and will learn the essentials of screen printing production, history, and many varied applications.
