Youth Mural Program
"Silver City Skate Park" -- Silver City (Summer 2010)
The Silver City Skate Park Mural was created during the two week MRAC Youth Mural Camp in July 2010. Artists Beth Menczer, Buck Burns, & Krystina Romero with interns Shanan Wolfe, Miriel Manning, Megan Mesa, & Matthew Margerum worked with 13 campers ages 5-12 years old to create the mural.
Before camp began, interns & artists met with local skaters & bikers to get their input & imagery ideas for the murals. A mosaic phoenix & dragon are intertwined with ceramic tiles. Hidden within the scales and feathers that make up the two mythical creatures one sees delightful & inventive details & tiny vignettes created by the campers and interns. Large areas were painted on site with painted mural cloth pieces added to create the whole.
Site sponsors were GIFTTT (Gila Institute for Tots to Teens) and Manzanita Ridge.
