Youth Mural Program
"Growing Up in the Mining District" Tile Mural Project -- Bayard Community Park (Spring '08)
Bayard elementary school students worked with local artists Beth Menczer, Kathryn Allen and Marcia Smith to create the elements for a stunning tile and mosaic mural depicting life in the mining district of Grant County. The students that ranged from first to fifth graders conducted oral histories about growing up in the mining district. Included in the mural, students commemorated the town of Santa Rita, which no longer exists as a result of the expanding mining operations in the area.
