The return of Pickamania! Bluegrass/Americana Festival was held on the second weekend in September, celebrating the close of summer — a FREE bluegrass, folk, Americana, roots and singer/songwriter festival in the heart of southwestern New Mexico. Presented in Silver City's Gough Park (pronounced "Goff") the free festival is outdoors allowing attendees to enjoy the fine late-summer weather in beautiful southwestern New Mexico.
It was a great weekend for Bluegrass, Folk, Americana music fans – and family fun in beautiful Gough Park! The MRAC was happy to see so many people out enjoying Pickamania! over the weekend. Even the rain on Saturday did not deter the crowd.
The event came back with a “bang” after a one year hiatus. It took the support of many partners to provide this weekend full of music for our community, most of it FREE. Over 50 volunteers kept things running smoothly, helping with everything from back stage management to trash and parking lot duty, set up and tear down. We give huge applause for our photographer Alison Trombley who worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to capture the essence of the event.
Feedback was resoundingly positive with the common refrain – bring it back next year! It’s not too late to give us your comments in our online survey!
Thanks to all the local bands and performers who donated their performances and workshops, KW Sound and Humphreys Enterprises for the discounted services, the Town of Silver City, police and parks departments for their terrific support and the Silver City Sun News for inserting our Festival Guides.
