Columbus Day Weekend in October 2009
The arts community of Silver City, presented the 13th Annual Weekend at the Galleries on Columbus Day Weekend, October 8-11, 2010. This long-weekend occasion attracted art lovers from far and wide to enjoy current works by regional artists on display in more than 20 galleries in historic downtown Silver City and nearby areas. A few exciting new events were added to the momentous event. The weekend commenced Friday night, Oct. 9 from 5:30-8 p.m. with "Pollo Loco" held at The Wherehouse at 305 S. Texas St. This curious evening was a competition for "chicken art" created by artists, both professional and amateur. The works were judged by live chickens and sold for less than $200 per piece. Individuals were invited to enjoy unique foods, handcrafted microbrews by the High Desert Brewing Company of Las Cruces, root beer and special surprises, and each Pollo Loco attendee received a complementary, commemorative Weekend at the Galleries pint glass.
